The Midterm is a 4-5 page analytical essay (not including the citation page) on one of the unit War Trauma, Generational Impact, and Redress in East Asia
Below are some examples of frameworks you can use (but are not limited to) in your reflections:
Reflect on how you think this aspect of women’s experiences of wartime speak to larger issues of perception of femininity, i.e. roles, sexuality, independence, autonomy, etc.
Reflect on how you think this aspect of women’s experiences of wartime speak to feminist activism, i.e. how women relate to the socio-political realities they are within, how they hear the call to action, and how fights for country/independence/etc. are feminist actions in and of themselves.
Reflect on how you think this aspect of women’s experiences of wartime speak to the idea that “the personal is political”, i.e. how do people contextualized the deeply personal aspects of war/conflict in the larger context of freedom fighting/country/etc.
The paper has to have a clear introduction that lays out your main reflections from the unit. The body paragraphs need to explore each collection of poems, essays, articles, etc. that was covered in the unit. You do not need to summarize the works, rather show how they formed your reflections on the unit and bolster your thesis statement. The analysis should be thoughtful and nuanced. In order to receive full credit, be sure there is a conclusion paragraph that reiterates your main points and brings the essay to a concise ending.
The paper should not overly rely on quotes, however, all citations are to be in MLA format. A Works Cited page or Bibliography (whichever applies to your paper) has to accompany the essay.
The paper will be double spaced, 12 font, normal margins, footers, and headers.
