You will conduct a short interview (no more than 1 hour in length) of someone who has either:
(a) actively sought to be excused from jury service
or
(b) served on a jury.
You will use the set of questions posted on Brightspace, and you also may ask additional questions as you see fit. Interviews can be conducted in person or via Zoom, phone, etc.
Then you must write a 4- to 5-page paper (not including the title page or references) summarizing and reflecting on the interview. Your task is to integrate what you learn during the interview with what you have learned from the assigned readings. That is, you should consider the results of your interview in the context of the material we cover in this course (e.g., how are the interviewee’s responses consistent or inconsistent with research findings about attitudes toward jury service? what was the interviewee’s experience of voir dire? etc.).
This assignment will be graded as on a 100-point scale, and it will comprise 15% of your final grade. You must complete your interview and submit your paper on Brightspace by 3pm on February 21st.
