• Demonstrate knowledge of the various categories of disabilities as outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act (IDEA), including Child Find obligations and educational implications specific to young children with
unique learning differences (i.e. developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia, intellectual
disabilities).
• Understand the characteristics and needs of exceptional children.
• Understand the nature of the various exceptionalities, including diverse groups, gifted and talented and
implications for teaching.
