For this short essay you will need to do two things. First, explain two arguments or ideas that we’ve looked at in the course. Second, you will need to present what you think is the best objection to just one of those arguments or ideas. You should allocate about 200-250 words to explaining each argument and about 300-400 words to presenting your objection.  The questions will cover content from the first unit on the metaphysics of personal identity and free will. The total length of the essay should be 800 words (+/- 10%).

Extensions: To apply for an extension of up to 10 working days, please send a single email Kai (kai.******************.au) and James (james.****************.au) – i.e. include both in one email. You must apply before the assignment is due. Please say both why you need an extension and the number of days you are asking for – the requirements for an extension are under 4.117 here. If you need more than 10 working days, then you will need to apply for special consideration. Special consideration applications need to be submitted within 4 working days of the assessment being due. You can also apply beforehand.
Late Penalties: Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at five per cent (5%) of the possible marks available for the assessment task per working day. Submissions will not be accepted after 20 University business days from the original assessment due date without written approval.
Academic Misconduct/Plagiarism: The University takes academic misconduct (e.g. plagiarism) very seriously. There can be serious consequences for breaching the University’s academic misconduct policy. You can read more about it here. Please note in particular that:
Using artificial intelligence software such as ChatGPT or QuillBot to generate material for assessment and representing this as your own ideas, research or analysis is not submitting your own work. Knowingly submitting work for assessment that has been produced by a third party, including artificial intelligence technologies, is deliberate cheating and is academic misconduct.
If you are unsure about academic misconduct and plagiarism, please get in contact with either Kai or your tutor before submitting your assignment.
