For this milestone, you will submit a draft of sections C and D of Part I, and all of Part II, of the final project. Your paper will compare and contrast myths (from two different cultures) that represent the same archetype (hero, goddess, flood, etc.). Discuss how the functions of each myth are demonstrated in their respective cultures. Then, discuss how your archetype may have spread or evolved using dispersion theory and Jung’s theory of the collective unconscious.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed in this milestone:
Introduction: In this section, you will introduce your chosen archetype and provide an overview of how this archetype is presented in the myths of two different cultures. (You are only responding to critical elements C and D in this milestone—critical elements A and B from this section were covered in Milestone Two).
Briefly explain two different theories of archetypes and how applying them to myths can help broaden our understanding of myths, including how they spread. In your response, use the following theories: dispersion theory and collective unconscious.
Define relevant terminology that will be used to discuss myths and archetypes.
Comparison and Significance of Myths: In this section, you will compare the two myth variations. You will use evidence from primary and secondary sources to support your claims.
Compare the two cultural variations of the myths presented, including the similarities and differences. Support your comparison with evidence from the primary sources.
Demonstrate how one theory of archetypes (Jung’s theory, dispersion theory, etc.) might account for the spread and evolution of the myths.
Demonstrate how a different theory of archetypes (Jung’s theory, dispersion theory, etc.) might also account for the spread and evolution of the myths.
Discuss the significance of each myth to its corresponding culture. Support your discussion with specific examples.
Analyze the purposes of the myths according to at least two different functions for each myth. Functions to consider include metaphysical, cosmological, pedagogical, sociological, psychological, and aetiological.
I am attaching guidelines and rubric for assignment; as well as Milestone Two, which is the first part of this assignment.
Please add secondary sources.
