OPTION A: EVALUATIVE ESSAY
For Option A, write a short essay (minimum 750 words) in which you evaluate the quality of a
short story or a work of nonfiction from the anthology that has not been assigned for class. A list
of acceptable choices can be found as a handout on Blackboard.
After an introductory paragraph in which you give the title, author, and date of the work and
briefly summarize it, the remaining paragraphs should focus on your views on the quality of the
work. You should support your views with evaluative criteria such as the quality of the plot,
characterization, descriptions of setting, and style (for narrative works) as well as any ideas that
the work presents. No secondary sources should be used.
