Description The invitational speech should invite the audience to discuss an issue and present enough information for them to do so without persuading them to support one side. Many of the same principles from informative and persuasive speeches will apply, but unlike the other speech types, this speech allows the audience to join the public dialogue. Thus, this will be a three-part speech: 1) intro and body 2) dialogue with the audience 3) summary/conclusion. Individual Speech Speech 5-7min Participation statement: A paragraph explaining your contribution to the speech what you liked/disliked about the process of it, and if there were any issues that arose from the process. Instructions For this speech, you will be expected to: Topic Approval Required Write and deliver a speech that explores at least two sides of an issue with the multiple perspectives approach. The topic should have significance beyond your personal experience and have clear relevance to the audience’s interest in the matter. Your speech will invite the audience to discuss the issue and will set up a safe environment in which to do so.Each member should research and present at least one portion of the body of the speech. Organize the speech in the manner which will best encourage discussion. Use the arrangement which best fits the perspectives presented. Main and supporting points should show unity, coherence, balance, and mutual exclusivity. Facilitate a discussion about the issue. Should decide on a goal, or what the discussion is designed to achieve relative to the specific purpose. Each speaker should contribute at least one question to the discussion and act as facilitator for it. The questions should encourage the sharing of multiple perspectives, and the facilitator’s responses should encourage the audience’s respect for the responder and the response. Use supporting materials that will clarify your ideas, respectfully present multiple perspectives, and hold the interest of the audience. Information may be drawn from personal experience but should be confirmed by outside sources. A minimum of five sources is required. Sources should be: Credible. Avoid using primarily one source. Clear sources that you aren’t sure about with me. Current. A minimum of three sources should be within the last five years. Cited Accurately. Sources should be cited in the speech, outline, and works cited page. Papers will be reviewed for plagiarism; appropriate consequences will be enforced.
