Briefing
The purpose of the individual assignment is for you to demonstrate your ability to create a
written report supported with visualisations to convey business insights and recommendations
to senior management.
The dataset telecom.xlsx is a hypothetical data file which concerns a telecommunications
company’s efforts to reduce churn in their customer base. Each case (row) corresponds to a
separate customer and records various demographic and service usage information. You may
make any reasonable assumptions, which you should state, when interpreting variables, albeit
please refer to the variable list worksheet.
Required work
Your objective is to analyse and investigate the data in preparation for a written report to
senior management of the company (you are welcome to make up a company name!). It is up
to you to decide which types of visualisations should be presented.
The deliverable is a written report, not to exceed 1,000 words (±10%, excluding any
visualisation screenshots).
You will be assessed for:
• how well you exhibit technical aspects relating to the course material
• your creativity and imagination
• how appropriate your visualisations are
• the quality and professionalism of the report
• the quality and appropriateness of your visualisation-driven business recommendations.
The task is deliberately open-ended, such that there is no single ‘right’ answer. You all have
the same dataset, and hence equal chances to discover some business insights through data
visualisation. You are welcome to make any reasonable assumptions, if you deem appropriate.
