DESCRIPTION
One of the most important sets of transferable skills you can acquire at university are research methods and research design, including the presentation of a research project through the use of a research poster. These are highly sought after skills in any work environment in various domains, such as government, international organisations and non-governmental organisations. Research posters are very widely used in academia and outside of universities. To reach this goal, this module offer undergraduate students training in the conduct of research in politics and international relations through a research proposal and a research poster.
You are welcome to choose any topic of your interest, which is related to the debates we engage with in this module and which has a clear ‘global’ dimension to it. You can choose any topic of global governance practice to research and can go beyond the practice areas we cover in this module (Anarchy, Co-operation, and the Global Governance of Security and Peace OR Norms, Values, and Ideas & The Global Governance of Human Rights) . At the same time, all research proposals have to speak to the theoretical and conceptual debates (‘Anarchy and Co-operation’ OR ‘Norms, Values, and Ideas’) we cover in this module.
It is composed of the following elements:
1. Research question
2. Justification of case selection/empirical focus/theoretical or conceptual focus (approx. 200-300 words)
3. Brief literature review to define a research gap and a proposed contribution (approx. 1,000-1,200 words)
4. Bibliography consisting of approximately 12 sources, including academic research, policy documents and institutional documents. The bibliography does not count toward the word limit.
