4.In a minimum of three double-spaced pages, answer the following questions and
submit to the “What Now for Spalding?” portal:
a. Given the information presented in the case and recent devastating decision by the
NBA to switch providers, outline an updated licensing strategy for the Spalding brand
as you would present it to Russell executives. Include product category and retail
distribution strategies as well as justifications for your choices.
b. Examining the data presented in Table 2 of the case, which licensee contracts
would you seek to renew and why? How do your decisions fit into the strategy you
developed in the exercise above?
c. In presenting your strategy and licensing contract decisions to Russell’s executives,
if you chose not to renew any or all of the contracts, how would you respond to their
questions regarding the amount of licensing revenues cut and the specific licensees
responsible for that revenue?
5. Prepare a short Prezi (prezi.com, five to ten slides) that you would present to a
specific Non-NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics conference (DII, DIII, NAIA,
NCCAA, JUCO, etc.). You are asking the conference to make you the exclusive
provider of basketballs for their conference. In exchange for this, you will provide a
discount on the amount you charge each school for basketballs. Be sure to include the
financials in the Prezi. Submit the link to “Spalding Prezi.” An emphasis on judging
this Prezi will be appearance.
